The therapist’s dream is to open a retreat center for couples in upstate New York. She was thinking about it this weekend while glamping. She is the most enterprising woman I have ever met, and I’m not sure if that means I should trust her more or less. Though she is in her late 50s, she is decidedly hot. Reminds me of a particular line about Marguerite Duras, how she was “devastatingly sexy” well into her 80s. I’m old enough now to understand how that sounds like a compliment but cuts like a curse.
I’ve been thinking about writing a post, half as a joke, with this title: sex appeal is low-status. If you live in San Francisco you might understand. We are all trying to reconcile the life of the mind with the life of the body, some of us with more success than others.
