i really love this and it's very similar to how i feel with powerlifting! love of the process itself, getting better just by showing up, walking a path others have walked before, and a deep awareness and pleasure learning our own physicalities.

i also notice that when i incorporate yoga into the days i'm not lifting, a lot carries over back into my lifting, like awareness of breath or where my body is in space. it's cool to hear you describe your own experience

The fear of being "doomed to be someone who started projects and abandoned them" is real. Reassuring to know that the cure is simply finding something you like.

I have a poem from my book, A Poem for Every Pose, about Shavasana I would like to share with you. It explores my journey though pretending to be dead, to wanting to be dead, to surrendering to all of life...

Ava, you are just a gem.

I myself am a big fan of worrying, but this made me forget it, something I go out my way not to do.

Okay, now I want to do Yoga.

"I would be wandering several feet away from the present moment and what I felt in shavasana was a gentle reeling in: all of a sudden I was actually where I claimed to be."

I went from hard martial arts to yoga almost two decades ago and haven't looked back.

It has helped me learn what I needed at the time, after a complete collapse, but it's also what helps me stay upright.

I prefer to do it at home though, and while I don't enjoy the workout, I love the feeling afterwards.

The meditation was always my favorite part.

A lovely read.

I teach trauma-informed yoga. Focused on getting us back to our body and breath. It’s a present moment experience. Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey. 💖
